TRANSIT UPDATE: Train service has resumed at restricted speed on the Pascack Valley Line through Westwood after being halted for a little over a half-hour by a gas leak that local police said was caused during NJ Transit’s track overhaul project.
“The gas line was hit by transit workers,” Westwood Police Chief Frank Regino told CLIFFVIEW PILOT at 5 p.m. “They have the trains coming through very slow now while PSE&G waits for a work crew to dig for the leak.”
NJ Transit at first made arrangements to run its trains to Emerson, where passes were being cross-honored on NJT and private bus lines headed up the line to Spring Valley, NJT spokeswoman Nancy Snyder said.
However, train service was resumed at 4:15 while the problem was tended to, she told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
The incident occurred at First and Broadway in Westwood around 3:45 p.m.
NJ Transit emergency crews were on hand to assist with downtown traffic, Snyder said.
