Yes, it’s the front room. But live music returned to Maxwell’s tonight.
Tonight’s rainstorm pushed Swingadelic inside from its originally scheduled 7 p.m. show at nearby Frank Sinatra Park. And although the kitchen was closed, the bar at Maxwell’s was open again.
The iconic club held a series of emotional closing shows leading up to a July 31 finale featuring the Bongos and the Individuals, along with a host of special guest performers (SEE: Maxwell’s in Hoboken closing after 35 years the way it began).
No one expected another performance after that.
But as warned earlier, Hoboken Administrator of Cultural Affairs Geri Fallo had a backup in case of rain tonight.
The band planned to play till 9 p.m.
Then again, Maxwell’s has always been full of surprises.
Don’t get used to it, though.
As John Ozed said earlier tonight on Facebook: “Band needs space to play out of the rain. Bandleader has keys to space that is indoors. Space is not being used. Problem solved.”
