YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A Teaneck man who told police he was robbed by an unknown assailant actually got his injuries in a fight with a friend over money — leading to both mens’ arrests this morning, Bergen County Police Chief Brian Higgins said.
County officers summoned by Little Ferry police went to Huyler Street and James Hansen Way in Teterboro just after 8:30 a.m. on a report of a robbery in progress, Higgins said tonight.
There they found an injured 22-year-old Ishmel Wallace, who “claimed he was a victim of an attempted robbery,” the chief said.
Wallace was out on $25,000 bail after being arrested on pot-selling charges during a drug sweep in Hackensack last month, records show.
He told county police he didn’t know his assailant. But he “was able to provide a description and a direction of flight,” Higgins said.
County Police K9 team Officer Les Lorenc and his partner, Harry, then tracked and found Teddy Wilson, 25, of Hackensack hiding behind a fence nearby, the chief said.
Both men “previously shared an apartment, as well as worked together,” he said.
There was no robbery, Higgins said, adding: “The assault occurred after Ishmel Wallace confronted Teddy Wilson over money he believed Wilson owed him.”
Wallace was being held on $5,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail charged with simple assault and falsely incriminating another perso.
Wilson, meanwhile, was released on a single count of hindering by flight.
