YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Rutherford police released a surveillance shot of an armed robber who they said waited for the Capitol One Bank branch on Park Avenue to open this morning, then took $3,500.
The robber came in through the Franklin Place entrance once the doors opened at 9 a.m., Rutherford Police Chief John Russo said.
He handed the teller a note and displayed a wooden-handled handgun in his waistband, the chief said. Then he fled with the cash in a dark backpack.
The robber was described as about 5-foot-8, with dark hair, sideburns, a square jaw and pock-marked cheeks. He was wearing a dark jacket and a black baseball cap with the name “Aramark” om the front.
The FBI was at the scene, along with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification, which was collecting evidence.
