UPDATE: A tractor-trailer crashed into the back of a DOT truck on northbound Route 17 just before 6 a.m., sending the rig’s driver and two DOT workers picking up cones to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern.
The tractor-trailer “drove over the attenuator” on the DOT truck, hit the back and injured the workers — none seriously — at 5:55 a.m., Capt. Stuart Blank told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Members of Mahwah Res1cue got the tractor-trailer driver out. He was taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pains, the lieutenant said.
All lanes of the highway initially were closed. One was reopened around 7:30 a.m. and the remainder at 8:12 a.m., Blank said.
A fuel spill on the tractor’s driver’s-side saddle tank was cleared by Mahwah Fire Co. 2.
In addition to Mahwah police and firefighters, the state DEP and a Bergen County Hazardous Materials unit responded.
