BEYOND BERGEN: An upstate New York man whose license was suspended more than 10 times was carrying a pound of pot when he was stopped changing lanes onto the George Washington Bridge in Washington Heights without signaling this afternoon, Port Authority police said tonight.
Officer Jeff Haner (above, left) was on marked patrol when he stopped the 2012 Chevrolet Impala at the 179th Street entrance to the bridge, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said.
Asked for his license, the driver — identified as 34-year-old Anthony Thompson of Johnson City (above, right) — said he wasn’t carrying it, Pentangelo said.
A subsequent computer check revealed the suspensions, he said.
Johnson was arrested and the car impounded.
A search of the trunk turned up the pot, which Pentangelo said Johnson told police he’d bought in the Bronx.
He was charged with felony marijuana possession and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
