BEYOND BERGEN: The deputy director of the Hudson County Correctional Center surrendered today to federal authorities today on charges of illegally wiretapping jail employees.

Kirk Eady, 45, used a website to call four employees from the Kearny facility while concealing his own number, making it appear as though they, and not he, placed the call, the FBI says in a complaint on file in U.S. District Court in Newark.

Eady, of East Brunswick, also recorded the conversations between March and July of 2012, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said.

He revealed what he’d allegedly done to a federal cooperator, the U.S. Attorney said.

Eady, who was due in federal court in Newark this afternoon, is charged with intentionally intercepting the wire, oral or electronic communications of others.

Federal agents raided the jail last March, taking documents and other items from administrative offices.

Sources at the time said the probe was focused on Eady.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney David L. Foster of Fishman’s Special Prosecutions Division.
